420, Bitcoin, wandering drifter, never lost, truth seeker & illustrious dreamer, freedom is everything. Retired IT project- & process nutcase."I would rather own a little and see the world, than own the world and see little of it. And if I only scrape a living. At least it's a living worth scraping.”
Much is said about the latest hack of the ColdCard with the stealing of bitcoins of destroying thousand of peoples life... But often looked over, is the stealing of bitcoins from other hardware wallets that have all if not most security in place, but the computers with whom the users try to do the transactions are compromised... You can do transactions day after day, week after week and everything is done safely, and then you can know of the warnings... Don't do this, don't do that... be warned about this and that... To many warnings might be become to much and then in a moment of stress and anxiety, a warning overlooked when the compromised computer gives you a hardware wallet error. This happened to me. I always expected my Linux computer to be safe, but a kernel flaw of many years took my computer over at root level... and in a moment of distraction, I made a mistake and the hardware wallet company said to me; "we're very sorry for your loss but we warned you. We take no responsibility... Bye." So the crux of the story here is: don't trust the hardware wallet - obviously... don't trust your computer or phone or any smart machine, TV or whatever, connected with the internet... But most of all, don't trust people. In the end you are standing ALONE to solve any problem or hardship ALONE.... That said; wars were fought in the past, people lost everything but their clothes on their back, loved ones... but if you have a fighting spirit... FIGHT to survive - ALONE. image
I've lost trust in "people " long time ago. Friend, foo, any fucking falable one. No exceptions, all are the weakest link and all capable as a human kind, destroying its/ this civilization. As young as a kid, I wanted too become a hermit. As Gigi said: we either live in a world with freedom or we don’t. I personally think that we've never have had that real freedom, unless one is that hermit. But even then he/she lives in a prison of self. Civilization as we know it is corrupt and decadent. Inevitably it will destroy itself. View quoted note →
You only have to read: cybersecuritynews[dot]com and hackersnews[dot]com to realize this world is completely fcked... And then I am not even talking about the politicians and the deep state actors that try to get us to live in 'the matrix'. image
GN nostricans... Feeling very lonely tonight and miss 'you' [my old nomadic life] so much more...
How safe is NOSTR, if my nsec keys are held on a compromised computer...? Can a Yubikey as a two factor authentication 'passphrase' ensure non authorized access by bad actors who might have access to the root of a computer OS?
With any Trezor... My advise at least is: 1. If a model is discontinued, stop using it and buy newer model. 2. Don't use web enabled Trezor Suite software. Only stand alone Suite app. But check where you download the Suite app and Udev's from.
Seen yesterday [29/07] at the FreeMadeira meetup and so incredibly impressed... This is the summit of sovereignty... running Archipelago as your Nostr Node with capability of side stepping the Internet at all with Mesh. https://www.youtube.com/live/gJAhic9ynvA
I wish software nowadays would be a simple and uncomplicated as pen and paper... I am starting to hate computers and any so-called "smart" equipment. Do programmers and engineers really believe that all people should learn to think like them? Is Usability Testing with common people and User Friendly use of all, a thing of the past? Why do hackers have to prove that they are so smart stealing your data, etc. and not use their intelligence to make this world a better one for all of us to enjoy.
And with this simple short video Joe has managed again why I feel so good to live on Madeira...
