Jessica is our delight coordinator. We have a full time person just to make sure that when you have something big in life happen that you feel love from the Crowd. She’ll generally send a little something like a baby blanket and a onesie for new babies, care package for mom, flowers to someone going through surgery, gift card to the local grocery if we have a member struggling financially, etc So many tough health cases that she has had to help with lately. Thanks to the Crowd these people can worry about their health and not their finances.

We are profitable. Have been for awhile. Profit in healthcare is GOOD...as long as the incentives are aligned. We want our members to have real reassurance that we'll be here for the long term. That kind of trust only comes from running a sustainable business model. For-profit → has to keep proving its value or lose the customer. That forces investment in better outcomes, faster service, lower costs. Innovation is survival. Nonprofit → insulated. Tax-exempt status, guaranteed funding streams, and captive markets mean the incentive to improve is weaker. Status quo is survival. Thomas Sowell: "Profits are not just rewards for risk-taking. They are also incentives for efficiency."

We have a member going through a very serious form of cancer at one of the leading cancer facilities in the country. He was just given a 90% reduction in price due to being cash pay. This WAS NOT through financial assistance (he owns a successful company)...just purely paying directly at the point of care. Healthcare is expensive if you use health insurance. Otherwise, very manageable...especially if you have a community of ~35,000 people helping you through it.
