Haven't touched the smart TVs yet, but I've been toying around with my Nvidia Shield Pro, which only has 3 GB of RAM. Removed the bloatware and stopped a bunch of apps from running in the background. It went from about 0.9 GB of free RAM to about 1.5 GB, and it runs way smoother. Swapped to a simple apps‑only launcher and a much more basic screensaver. Also had Claude install SmartTube a no ads tv youtube app, and I gave it my NewPipe subscription file. It imported everything and set it all up for me—no Google sign‑in needed. Next will be the Samsung and LG tv. I am seeing posts that Claude shut down rea use so this might get harder we shall see. View quoted note →

New China model DeepSeek dropped. I came to Nostr to see the @utxo the webmaster 🧑‍💻🍁 report on it. All I got were food pictures and that he’s sleeping well after a heavy lift. Signing off Nostr lol. In all seriousness keep crushing it 💪.

My friend had this MP3 player that he was going to throw away because the UI was so bad he just hated using it. He gave it to me. It's been sitting collecting dust for a while, so yesterday I thought maybe I could mod it to be functional. So I plugged it into the computer, pointed Claude Opus 5.5 at it, and in 2 hours I got such a better experience — even a podcast player working on it. Night and day in usability now. What a time to be alive.

Bitcoin is not good at transactions— is this surprising at all? Is Bitcoin easier to control if it is only used as digital gold? I know we have the Lightning Network and other developments in progress, and Lightning does work technically. People use it every day. But it hasn't delivered self-custodial, private, everyday payments at scale, and much of its real use runs through custodial wallets. Bitcoin, when I first started a decade ago, was so exciting as a tool to be money outside the state, but it seems we have become so intertwined that it has lost its roots—or maybe I am just getting old and it has lost its luster. I guess another, better form of savings is life‑changing in itself, but I had much bigger dreams for Bitcoin. Maybe it just takes a little longer.
