Today, a family member was admitted to a psychiatric hospital. This isn’t the first time I’ve experienced something like this. I’m slowly beginning to think that perhaps one of my life’s purposes is to learn how to navigate situations involving people in psychological crisis and to be there for them. This has been a part of my life since I was young. There are many things I can probably already handle quite well. And there is still a lot I have yet to learn 🤍 #psychology #love #family #growstr

Today I spoke on the phone with my friend who has cancer. She is now in the third of eight treatment cycles, each lasting three weeks. The fact that she still has more than half of them ahead of her is really discouraging for her. I could hear it in her voice as she told me how sick the chemotherapy makes her feel, and how difficult it is to live with the knowledge that she still has such a long way to go. I could feel what she was going through. And at the same time, she is so incredibly brave. She doesn’t sink into self-pity. I admire her very much. And as our conversation went on, I noticed her mood changing. She gradually became more like the person I know: facing life head-on, proactive, thoughtful, and intelligent 🤍 #cancer #friendship

When I’m home alone, I cook whatever I feel like, without having to take anyone else in the family into consideration, and I eat whenever I want. Today: gnocchi in sage butter with feta 🤍 #foodstr

The teenagers made themselves some pancakes and settled around the kitchen table with lovingly sliced fruit, homemade chocolate sauce, and hot chocolate. Even though we don’t have any strict screen-time rules, I don’t feel like they’re constantly glued to their phones. Instead, I notice them picking up on our active lifestyle and always finding things to do. Cooking, baking, reading, crafting, making things, training with the animals, and so on 🤍 #kidstr #foodstr

Finally #coffee 🤍 I let myself get carried away into giving a moral lecture again today (thankfully, it only happens rarely). But 12-year-olds who sit back and play helpless or adopt a victim mentality can really push my buttons every now and then. So the poor kid had to listen to me telling him that “he isn’t helpless, and pretending to be helpless doesn’t exactly suit him,” and so on and so forth. Of course, it doesn’t accomplish anything and certainly wasn’t one of my finest moments as a teacher 🤍 #teacherstr

Arrived at school. I have six lessons back-to-back without a break ahead of me. That would have scared me in the past. Thankfully, it doesn’t anymore. Well, almost 🤍 #teacherstr

Nostr. Until now, I’ve been pretty anonymous here, in the sense that hardly anyone who follows me here also knows me in real life. That’s given me a certain sense of freedom to share whatever comes to mind and whatever I feel like sharing, without having to worry about someone in my personal life feeling hurt, offended, or uncomfortable by it. And when I really think about it, it’s actually the beautiful things in my life and the little moments of happiness that I tend to be more reserved about sharing in my private life. That comes from experience: sometimes it can hurt other people’s feelings, create an incomplete picture, or even trigger (unwarranted) envy and misconceptions. Of course, that can happen here, too. But it doesn’t affect me quite as much because I don’t run into these people every day or have close personal contact with them. Now, more and more people from my inner circle are finding their way here, too. And I’m genuinely happy about that. It’s lovely.
