What exactly is the point of a welfare state incentivizing people from other countries to move there? Does it make sense to you?
My understanding is that OP_RETURN is specifically meant for arbitrary data and thus its willful expansion, to me, suggests enabling a safe haven for illegal content.
Legal questions aside, it would be a publicity nightmare should OP_RETURN be abused in that way.

Here’s a TLDR:
- reduces block space for inscriptions and complex transactions to 1MB
- blocks with normal transactions can still occupy up to 4MB
- uses Satoshi’s double-hash method to enable pruning of OP_RETURNs without breaking the ability to reverify the block’s Merkle Tree
