Chinese AI companies are on the fire. First kick in the balls to western competition was GLM 5.2. Extremely cheap model that had 80% capability of than frontier models. At that time, for coding, if you had any development knowledge (so you can create concrete plans and steer it) it was money burning to use anything else. They decided to open source it, basically setting bottom line for everyone who is offering AI over network.
Than Kimi 3 came. That was not kick in the balls, that's shot in the knee. And they are planning to open source it too! Frontier model, available to anyone who can afford hardware to run it.
And now i hear that there should be GLM 5.5 coming out next month. So not only do we have Chinese frontier model, but we will have two if rumors are true. Don't know if they will open source it too.
Frontier open source models....
That basically resets whole game to zero. It's like we just started. Everyone has to up their game like it's day one of LLM's.
I used to follow image generation scene too....things are simply coming at too high speed for me to follow it all....i have life outside computer too....we are moving at crazy speed at the moment.
