Continuing with the “saga” of my nephew in Brazil, I spoke with some Brazilian friends, and none of them have heard of Bitcoin Cash (BCH). They confuse it with Bitcoin (BTC), which (since it’s been neutered) can’t be used as a decentralized peer-to-peer payment currency.
Plus, the Pix system is so convenient that they already have a way to pay or make quick transfers using their cell phones. It’s so convenient that they’re abandoning cash (physical bills) and aren’t looking for alternatives. Even though they know that Pix transfers are being monitored and there have been cases where the federal police have shown up because someone was handling amounts greater than what’s stated on their income tax return.
Brazil is literally turning into the movie *Brazil* (1985), and they don’t care.

------------
Yesterday I told you how I taught my nephew to use Selene Wallet and even made a demo transfer for him so he could see how easy and effective it is.
My nephew in Brazil is a minor and doesn’t trust the banking system because money has already been confiscated from people in his country; plus, the real (BRL) is suffering from high inflation, but the entire financial system is heavily monitored by the government. He can’t buy BCH on a centralized exchange because he has to register his ID (CPF) and must be of legal age.
If he were to send me money through a bank so that I could then transfer BCH back to him, it would be very expensive to convert the currency and make the international transfer.
Is there a decentralized community in Brazil for people who want to keep their savings safe?

A nephew of mine opened a barbershop. He asked me how cryptocurrencies work, given the current fear that the Brazilian government might become more dictatorial.
I showed him how to set up the Selene Wallet, how to back up his seed phrase, and when he showed me his QR code, I transferred the equivalent of $5 to him with a transaction fee of $0.052, even though I was in one country and he was in another.
