I'd say yes and no. If bitcoin stops being a real store of value, then we have to reconsider things. The reason for having a transparent blockchain is to avoid inflation bugs which could crop up with a more private, encrypted, blockchain. However, if one doesn't care about the store of value aspect, then it means that it is mostly just a medium of exchange. For a simple medium of exchange, the risk of an inflation bug on a private blockchain is much less concerning. Also, a private blockchain might actually make more sense for a medium of exchange.
