Good lord, what a few days. Just completed a major frontend migration for HAMSTR. Had it queued up and started since before Reticulum Network integration. Much needed for futureproofing and better code I think.
For the NOSTR nerds/devs:
Upgraded from Svelte 4 to Svelte 5 with full runes adoption, Tailwind v3 to v4, and flowbite-svelte v0.47 to v1. All components migrated to $state, $derived, $effect, and $props. Dropped last remaining bits of the old skeleton UI entirely.
Build is now cleaned up a bit, and is now fully part of the repo, so no more building the client with Node. Just clone the branch, tweak the settings files, and launch web_app.py with python.
Some day will be an EXE and bin or similar, with all settings built in. But not there yet....

Lead Hamster at HAMSTR - NOSTR over HF Radio
HAMSTR is live, see github link in profile.
Big update for HAMSTR — Reticulum mesh networking is now live on the master branch.
What this means is now NOSTR notes & Lightning zaps(cashu coming soon) can now travel over LoRa radio using the Reticulum Network Stack.
No internet. No cell towers. No relays you don't control. Just encrypted mesh packets hopping between nodes to reach a HAMSTR server. Full briding is possibly as well over many reticulum nodes and endpoints.
Why Reticulum over LoRa changes things:
Traditional packet radio (AX.25) requires licensed ham operators on both ends and is limited by line-of-sight at VHF/UHF. VARA HF reaches further but needs expensive interfaces and Windows.
LoRa operates on unlicensed ISM bands (915MHz in the US). Anyone can run a node. RNode hardware is cheap — under $30 for a LilyGO or RAK device. Reticulum handles routing, encryption, and authentication automatically. No callsigns required. No license required to participate.
A HAMSTR server running Reticulum becomes a mesh-connected NOSTR gateway. Clients within LoRa range — potentially miles — can post notes, fetch feeds, and send Lightning zaps with zero internet infrastructure.
This is the censorship-resistant communication stack we've been building toward. Off-grid, encrypted, decentralized, and now within reach.
Running VARA HF and AX.25 Packet Radio backends continue to work alongside it and is preferred for existing radio usage and superior range.

For now it is best if you already have used reticulum and have some rnodes setup. if not, i have some insutructions here :
And there are lots of web tutorials and youtube videos on flashing and hardware setup.

Working out a few minor bugs, but after a quick month off for some family stuff, I will be merging the #HAMSTR reticulum branch this weekend, maybe today. This means that you will now be able to use HAMSTR over 2 lora devices over the reticulum network, including zaps. No ham license required at all. I am testing a high powered and lower powered lora setup for this at home and a good antenna roof mounted, and have easily hit 6-7 miles. Likely 15-20 miles is doable with a better line of sight.
You can also use Reticulum Network over many other layers, direct over hashed addresses, ham radio, serial modems and more. stay tuned.
This means that HAMSTR will now support Packet Radio connections, HF packet connections, VARA HF connections, and reticulum network connections.
Soon, all users will be able to mix and match hamstr protocols and networking types.
So far (with lots of testing to go!) I have been able to replicate a few times multi modal transports and tests of different types. A truely decentralized network.
Next up after the merge is a custom cashu wallet for the client and server software. This will allow for full 8

Credit card/airline miles and and points are the most fiat thing ever invented.
Absolutely insane that these even exist, and are the only way most airlines stay solvent at all.
Bear the fuck down. Final Four baby.
