@Lyn Alden has an interesting take on the OP_RETURN debate, comparing it with scribbling on paper dollars. Taking Lyn's analogy a step further... When the Bureau of Engraving and Printing discovered folks were writing on bills, laws were made to discourage the defacement and misuse of paper bills as money. What they didn't do was throw up their hands and decide to make the size of the paper bills extraordinarily large to make more room for graffiti.
