🥾 WildBit is finally out. Three months ago, when I was working on @roadstrapp an idea brew in me: being the good millenial in my late 30's that I am, I love hiking and I usually do using Komoot as a hiking companion. But I'm also striving to obtain sovereignty over my digital life so I always had the thought of ditching that stupid app sooner or later. But for my trekking I did not want an that feels like a spreadsheet with a map bolted on. Since then it's been three months of building a pixel-art (Octopath traveler was a massive inspiration) rendering engine from scratch — not raster tiles with a filter, but forests, water, trails, bridges, and buildings actually composited live from OpenStreetMap data into a small illustrated world, with Bit (the mascot) walking through it, trekking pole and all. Today it's live. v0.1.0, open source (GPLv3), no ads, no tracking, no account required, with the usual optional Nostr login. What's in this first release: A real pixel-art map renderer — terrain, biomes, water, trails, POIs, all with stable geographic anchoring across pan/zoom/rotation Explore: curated hiking routes with real length and difficulty (CAI/SAC), not just generic OSM paths GPS tracking with pause/resume, GPX import/export, live altimeter Android location without Google Play Services Optional fully-offline voice guidance (local neural TTS) Nostr sharing for your tracks (kind 1301), Amber login, encrypted local-first storage with a recoverable backup It's still an alpha, there's so much to polish, but I also need feedback and on my own is difficult to get proper coverage in different terrains, countries and style of trekking I also want to be clear, OSM data isn't a substitute for judgment on the trail, be careful guys, I don't want anyone to be hurt. LibreNostr 0.2.6 is out. Quoted notes often showed "Mentioned event not found" — the field that used to carry them was Primal's centralized cache server's job, never replaced with a relay fetch after the fork. The thread screen and main feed now ask relays for a missing quoted note directly. Also fixed: the new Accounts entry in Settings opened empty, a bunker (NIP-46) account could get prompted for leftover event kinds Amber was already shielded from, and a cancelled bunker connection could leak an open socket.
