BEHOLD THE MYTH that spam brings more fee revenue to a miner.
Two blocks mined back-to-back.
The first block, signalling for BIP-110, contains zero inscriptions, OP_RETURNs, or other arbitrary garbage: ~2,500 transactions in total, not even full, yet it still generated about $1,200 in fees.
The second block, mined by the Chinese pool, with over 90% of its blockspace taken by spam: ~6,500 transactions in total, yet it produced only about half the fee revenue of the spam-free block — despite including 2.5x more transactions.
It’s not the “ideological” miners who are acting against their economic interest. It’s the spammy ones.
