Since @Lyn Alden has been asking some interesting questions about fiction, I wanted to ask about something that has been done well in a series I'm reading, summed up as:
"The good guys suffer a substantial loss and the bad guys seem to prevail at the end of each book in the series."
Any other books you can recommend that do this?
