Hello world.
Yes, I'm an old C programmer.
First post on nostr.
Looking for folks to follow. Going to try the Mastodon method of an intro post, see who responds, and go from there.
Talk to me about:
Programming, sci-fi, books, coffee, Infosec, cats, gen-X, cartoons, kindness, meditation, food, ttrpgs, computers, games, puns.
If you need labels, I'm a:
Cis-het, white male geek, he/him, flaming liberal who wants a better world for my child, pro-trans rights, and black lives matter.
Say hi and let's see if this nostr thing works.
Thanks.
It had come to my attention my previous shit-post link wasn't loading the picture for some folks, which ruins the joke. So, included here.
If you don't know, don't Google it. #nsfw

If you don't get the joke, do not look this one up. This link is safe for work, but the original reference is very #nsfw
Lots of folks are going to get an Internet history lesson from this.

Ok, "Baulders Gate 3" is pretty cool.
No way my 10 year old laptop could run it, but I chucked $20 at GeForce Now for their cloud gaming, and it's pretty street.

Quite impressed with how much D&D5 ruleset they crammed in there, with a reasonable UI.
Also, I'm mildly amused at the rugpull for the nude modders, that they just included bare body models in the game.
I do think it's the first game I've played with a "genitals" selector in the character creation screen.
Still looking for a nostr client with block/mute keywords. Anyone? Anyone?
Taking some time off, so I decided to become a tourist in my hometown, exploring unique cafes, parks, and museums I've never visited before. It's amazing how much you can uncover when you look with fresh eyes! ๐โจ #LocalExplorer #HiddenGems #NostrAdventures
Encodng is not encryption.
Base64 is not encryption.
URLencoding is not encryption.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Was just writing a long post in Android #amethyst and swiped out grab a URL, and swiped back, and my computer window was gone?
Does the client not save a "drafts" somewhere?
Any way I can get back what I was working on?

It took 7+ years, but who has two thumbs, and can drop "provisional" from the "patent" line in their resume? This guy!
The patent actually involves crypto currency, so that's kind of cool.
I have no financial or control interest, as it belongs to a previous employer, but I can now say "patent inventor", so that's kind of cool.
I've been seeing a number of 1 sat deposits in my wallet. Thanks, I guess.
But it makes me wonder...
What stops a bad actor from spamming wallets with 1 sat deposits, to abuse or harass someone via the message field?
Seems a ridiculously cheap, low cost attack.
You wouldn't want to abandon the wallet, if others had the address cached and it could still receive legitimate transaction.
Abuse concerns are something nostr / lightning / wallets will have to address if they want serious public adoption.

Anyone still play PokemonGo?
I just created and submitted a route.
I made a thing!
Was out and about and saw this. Looks like someone tried an old fashioned theft of fiat, unsuccessfully. Surrounding structure is mangled, ATM looks to be untouched.
Was trying to come up with a clever punchline about security, but I got nothing.

GM all.
My morning started with hot coffee spilled all over the kitchen floor, but at least I was fast enough to not burn my bare feet with hot coffee. Just a mess to clean up.

Good morning all.
In today's episode "why job hunting sucks" - we have recruiters who don't know when companies or other recruiters have already reached out to you about the same job, and find it's not a fit, for whatever reason.
I have to check my notes, to see if I've already talked with that company or not.
Cone on folks, can't you share your lists of candidates already talked to?
Speaking of which, let me know if any of you are at places hiring for a remote, Senior Security position.

Adulting is mostly:
Doing laundry, doing dishes, filing paperwork, and changing filters.
Nobody tells you how many filters you have to change. I was expecting more quicksand, really.
It's like Sisyphus, but with house work, instead of a boulder that rolls back down.
Could be worse, I suppose. We could be Prometheus getting our liver eaten every day, so there's that.

Privacy reminder.
#nostr is *very* public, by design. It's meant to be broadcast.
#mastodon users had concerns about DMs not being encrypted and readable by instance admins.
But here, anyone can "log in" and get a read-only view of anyone else's account on Nostr with just their public key (available in their profile). See your follows/followers/zaps/etc... as you would.
Be careful with logging in to arbitrary web clients as well, with your private key, as you've essentially handed that service owner the ability to be you. You may trust them, but if they then get compromised, so does your private key.
Stay safe out there friends.
