I picked up Jonathan Haidt's recent _The Anxious Generation_ on recommendation of a (highly) trusted person in my life. As early as page four, we find a lamentation that children can check a box indicating parents' permission but "..the wording of the law [COPPA] doesn't require companies to verify ages..." ...noted.
