It's wild how the majority of people don't care about the risk of getting de-platformed. It seems to be happening extremely arbitrarily and to a lot of people. But could be it just seems that way from my personal nostr bubble of course.

When you see that type of behavior, you can assume that the person acting is not the decision maker. Generally, decision makers avoid looking bad. Order followers have to eat the shame to follow the agenda.
They are trying to plug up all the leaks. Thankfully, open source fixes the problem nicely. Antennapod is open source for android. On cpu, gpodder works. Those options avoid their censorship because, simply, they can only target legally revenue generating entities.
