It will cost a lot but Mac os is still an okay option running local and tweaking settings .
. But these days most people use a home pc for pretty little. Linux mint would work fine for them

One of my friends tried linux and didn't like it. There is some learning curve even in the just works distros and people prefer what they're used to.
Theres a learning curve with windows as well
Then they'll be abused. That's the simple reality.
