I'm all for being suspicious. I've generally liked Alex's vibes and heard good things from people who've spent time with him. I don't know enough about the argument or facts behind it (pretty ignorant about any deep political stuff; we can't all be experts in everything), so can't judge for myself very well how off base his takes on this issue might be

Maybe he does believe what he says. Im sure plenty of people that work for these politically weaponized NGOs genuinely believe the rhetoric they spout. Its just my previous respect for alex and the things hed talk about that makes that impossible to believe for me. I cant believe that the person that wrote Hidden Repression is spouting regime change propaganda brazenly, and influencing the people that listen to him, without some sort of motivations
