3 credit cards. All declined by Anthropic and I don’t know why. Maybe because I am in Zimbabwe? Recently a friends PayPal account was suspended, they are from UK visiting Zimbabwe and wanted to make a payment. Shortly after that other banks asked them for proof of funds otherwise they could not access the 400 pounds (400!!) that they received on that account. And then people ask my: why bitcoin!!! image

I'm in the US. My FICO is pretty high, but I couldn't pay for some dental work with two cards a few months ago. I rescheduled the appointment and bought $1,300 to pay cash. Crazy times we live in. I don't understand why people put up with this.
Three cards declined. PayPal frozen. Β£400 hostage on a trip to the UK. This isn't financial exclusion, it's the permission-based system working exactly as designed. The question was never 'why Bitcoin?' It was always 'how did we accept this for so long?'
A VPN connection to whatever country the bank thinks you belong in can help. Except they also tend to block known VPN IP addresses, so you'd need to tunnel to your own home or a friends place ideally. Or use Bitcoin. Or both :-)
