Unfortunately, most squash gourds or pumpkins besides luffa grow here without heavy pesticides BC of the squash bugs.

Hard to win sometimes.
Its fine, we just change what we grow to not deal with the pests. One day we'll have our soil amended enough probably to deter pests.
