oh yeah. piezoelectricity in rock is a hugely important thing in geophysics. the sun is constantly dumping electricity in the form of plasma and x-rays that ionize and energise the ionosphere and thermosphere (the layer above the ionosphere) and this current travels down to earth, mostly to the poles but also through magnetic anomalies, gets discharged into the ground by lightning, and causes rocks to swell from piezoelectric effect (compressing makes electrons emit, electrifying causes the crystal to swell).
the basis of almost all electronic technology is crystal based oscillators. they are used in clocks and computers and signalling circuits to provide carrier waves to modulate signals over.

Yeah this video explains piezoelectricity and utilization of crystals in tech and such. Didn't know about this phenomenon.
