Isn’t it that if the majority of nodes reject a block, the miners won’t get to put it in the blockchain ?

That’s the idea. Even a minority of nodes rejecting large OP_RETURN transactions (spam, arbitrary data, non-monetary database-like information) can disrupt the process and lead to orphaned blocks. That will cause miners pain and they’ll eventually use the same filters as the nodes to reduce the risk of not getting rewarded.
