I can’t believe bitcoiners are using the word β€œpleb” to describe themselves. It’s such an incredibly derogatory word, only Brit’s who grew up in the 80s truly understand this.

That's kind of the point though. It's a recognition that the fiat elites believe they are above everyone, but bitcoiners take insults and wear them as a badge of honor so they lose their power. Plenty of examples of this. Bitcoin maxi was an insult from Vitalik. Some pundit on X called everyone 80IQ. The skull of Satoshi was funded by xrp/Greenpeace to ruin Bitcoin's public image. All of them were embraced and became part of the meme culture.
I think the point was more to make us look more humble, we are just β€œplebs”, but in fact the word is so derogatory that calling us a bunch of β€œcunts” is on a similar level, maybe slightly worse. I don’t understand how this can ever give us a good look outside of our bitcoin bubble, even if we go with your explanation Ben. Obviously I wish all bitcoin businesses like @Plebeian Market all the best, but a brand name like that has a dreadful look outside of our bitcoin community bubble.
Calling ourselves β€œplebs” has no positive connotations on the outside world. Stating an 18 year old Satoshi comment helps nobody, and has no meaning in this context.
Well Bekka, this is simply not true, it depends on your own definition of relevant I guess and whether other people agree with it. Britain is a pretty big economy and I don’t feel it’s helpful for Brits to be associating bitcoiners as plebs just because we labeled ourselves as such from the beginning. People we’re trying to attract to bitcoin simply don’t understand the irony β€œwe’re” trying to convey from the outset. From their side, it just makes us look amateurish and foolish
Hey! I'd much rather be referred to as a cunt than a pleb, thank you very much. But yeah, the term has zero appeal to me, especially when you have folks who are clearly absolutely minted referring to themselves as such. Bellends.
