It isn't a "non-issue" for me: I see core, taproot and the like as a weapon to be used against it's wielders since they obviously weren't thinking of Roman Pilums for design. What can I say, I enjoy the chaos and always have. RE: trb nodes - pretty sure more exist in the wild, I still run one with the programmable version string patch which just advertises itself as another "Core" node.

Well I'd hope so. Since both have no overall bearing on how Bitcoin proper operates, a movement to excise this retardation wouldn't hurt my feelings at all. Highly unlikely with the continued enshittification of almost every good system in modern world but one can dream.
