This is exactly why we are going to win. πŸ”₯πŸ”₯ Things like Nostr, Bitcoin and Lightning SDKs, Peardrive core, etc are going to make it even easier to do secure authentication, simple monetary integrations, and simple sovereign hosting or private connections. This was VIBE CODED people! Even though I’ve not shared our many iterations, I’ve had this exact experience. Getting a basic tool for P2P sharing working in a few hours and then just fixing quirks and UI stuff for a few days to make it feel cleaner. Things like the Pear stack, and Iroh, and Holesail (fyi @Pete Winn πŸ”† drop Tailscale and just use Holesail here, much simpler UX) are huge leaps forward in the ability to self host these things. My hope as well is that Peardrive core makes this so utterly simple to build with that amateur coders could use it in a way that feels no different than simple web development. And what you can do when you unleash people to create anything they can imagine is just wild. We are going to win, but we will be waiting for it to happen until everyone reading this post realizes that YOU CAN JUST BUILD THINGS! View quoted note β†’

I need to push the fix for the hypercores bloating. There’s a part of the cleanup after delivery that gets hung up sometimes and uses up extra space that it doesn’t need to. I have been meaning to get that fixed but we’ve been working on a refactor. Keep an eye out and update when the new versions drop. Right now this is still super alpha so lots will change.

I am skeptical of 🍐 I opened a room with just 2 of my computers on the same wifi. Started a large file transfer and for some reason it's limited by my ISP bandwidth. Why tf? It's supposed to be peer 2 peer. It should be fully LAN, going at the speed of my router. Also it's closed source so I'm thinking they might just be routing through servers so it looks like it works better than it does.
Having a look at holesail this morning, doesn't play nicely with Bun, but might have a tempoary work around. Seems promising. I'm pretty happy with tailscale as I already have this deployed everywhere I need this, but I can think of a bunch of use cases to get apps talking directly peer to peer.
just today I ran into the problem that my internet was using cgnat, and now finding this, I think it could help me with the problem.
