I'm thinking of just making it something that you'd deploy yourself instead of a managed service (so I don't become a honeypot for keys). Would that be a blocker for you all?

Sure, sounds good. I might need some guidance, but I am sure we can make it happen. Will ask developer friends to help if needed.
If this is for "plebs," it should be as easy to deploy as possible. Ideally packaged for @Start9 and @Umbrel ☂️ . If for businesses needing to manage access to their Nostr account for team members, that's a different matter. Can require a bit more know-how in that case.
