I think it's because of the way he talks. Angry people like hearing angry voices. Or something like that... He's probably not actually angry. Just has that kind of voice.

There's absolutely something to be said about that. I won't listen to a podcast if the host's voice is annoying, poor quality, too many sound effects or commercials. I'm sure there are some who like his voice or he reminds them of their dad, whenever else.
The VAST majority are looking for answers. Listen to his callers. They sound like perpetual bad decisions anthropomorphized into human beings. It's like a radio show for those people from HGTV.
