but if you pronounced it in polish or ukrainian, it would sound like "pub key" - even the name of the lesser known branch of the russian-rooted society (russian, ukrainian and RUSYN - pronounced Roo-Seen) would be pronounced this way. funny that.
no, not russian. ukrainian/romanian/moldovan. in fact, polish, while being a big influence on these southern russic languages, would not write it this way, in bulgarian and russian it's IY and in yugoslavian, the equivalent IJ. not the west european version of this dipthong, that is more like the english "ai" or like the first vowel in "diamond" or the word "die".
