Since I just posted a painting let me also post my favorite painting, Nighthawks by Edward Hopper. You've all seen it many times already but you might not know: historians are 1000% not sure if it was supposed to match an actual place, or just a general feeling of a memory of a place in Manhattan. There's tons of stuff online from people trying to figure it out, even driving around NYC taking pictures trying to piece it together like detectives. image

If it was a real place, the time when it looked like this seems lost to history, other than this painting. Even though it's in NYC at a time when people had cameras. People didn't take pictures all the time back then.
