I'm with you 100% on that. For some reason, there's a decent cohort among the Nostr userbase that actually think it's a GOOD thing that you can't delete your data. Imagine being pro-freedom and pro-ownership but against the freedom and ownership of your data!
I understand the argument that immutability of posts makes it harder for people to lie about what they said in the past, but it should ultimately be ONLY up to the individual whether previous content is still live or not, especially on a platform (before the keyboard warriors go at it, yes, I know Nostr is a protocol) that's designed to give people sovereignty over their social presence.

I’m not sure if there is a way to code a protocol such that an individual can completely wipe their data from it if they decide to. If an option becomes available I would be the first to use it though
