I just spotted an old online friend of mine over on X RTing a post from a delusional account supporting all sorts of ID collection in the name of "protecting kids from porn". This wasn't a government saying it, it was a private citizen that said it.
It blows my mind how outright braindead someone has to be to argue in favor of such systems.
I'm extremely anti-porn and would love to see it criminalized outright (or at least require porn sites to ID gate at the service level), but "age gating" the entire internet as a solution instead of parents getting off their lazy backsides is an insanely stupid and socialistic mentality.
You can be vehemently opposed to porn and yet still stand and likewise firmly state that some solutions aren't worth the tradeoff.
No nanny state. No ID collection online. Free speech on a free net forever. This is precisely why I'm on Nostr.

Season 7 of The Walking Dead is often considered to be one of the worst of the show by many, but rewatching it, it's actually really solid. I think the reason people disliked it was the compound grief of losing two major characters at the start followed by seeing the group (worst of all, Rick) completely subdued and hopeless. In reality, that contrast against Rick's confidence in the two seasons prior, is extremely good for the character arc.
In general, I don't understand the hate for the later seasons of the show. Yeah, nothing beats season 2 or the first 5-6 seasons overall, but aside from 8's over-reliance on action (and bad calls from the showrunner), the way 10 drags on a little too long, and the way season 11's first arc felt relatively forgettable, I think the whole show is thoroughly worth watching and enjoying.
Got a question for #asknostr. Is there any sort of trustworthy directory for me to look into relays? I'm interested in tweaking my relay setup a bit but I'm a bit lost on how to find good ones that are both reliable and trustworthy.
The fact that Nostr allows things like @Gamestr to exist is incredible. It's amazing how many possibilities exist with this protocol!

Flock needs to be sued into the dirt where it belongs. Absolutely disgusting that they've been permitted to do what they're doing. Take it all the way to the SCOTUS.

Can someone with a better understanding of Bitcoin economics explain to me what exactly causes the price to rise and fall? I have never been amazing at economics in general, but I'm struggling to figure out why the fiat value of Bitcoin seems to collapse seemingly randomly. #asknostr #bitcoin
A really good read. This is something that you need to look into if you live in Europe. And if you don't live in Europe, keep an eye out for this in your own region. The introduction of a CBDC will be the end of freedom and it can't effectively be fought at that point.

Here's a radical idea! Maybe teens don't need to be on Instagram at all, and parents should start paying attention to what their kids do online.
My parents kept a pretty close eye on what I did online as a teenager and I'm grateful for it. I wasn't allowed on social media until I proved myself capable of handling it.

I'm actually not anti-AI at all anymore. I favor it for a lot of purposes and think it can do some really amazing things. But at the same time, I have to agree with the anti-AI crowd on one thing: it's getting incredibly old how these out-of-touch tech CEOs think that we need to have AI in EVERYTHING.
Personally, I think a balance of AI with traditional resources is the ideal solution. Putting AI into everything just makes people lazy.
