That’s the beauty of cashu, it’s a bearer token that you hold on your device. No need to connect to anything, just hand over the token. There could be lots of ways of metering the connection, just as data volume. The service could even refund you for services not rendered. I find that more elegant than handing over control of your node, even if only partially

We are working on exactly that. The router accepts small, frequent, granular payments. The captive portal is just a way to pay if you don't have an app. Routers can already pay one another (latest beta) this way. Eventually for end-consumers this should happen in the background automatically as well.

If a user doesn't intend to use the 10 GB of data, they probably shouldn't buy 10 GB of data. How about buying just 1 MB and then buying the next MB just in time as the first MB is about to get used up? This gives you the freedom to walk away from your provider or to connect to a different provider at any point in time without losing much money.
