It uses cryptography to sign each event, but each note is just a set of json data about your post that gets signed with your cryptographic key pair. These event blobs just get sent to relays for storage after it’s created on your phone. All the payments are handled using other protocols (like bitcoin lightning) and then a receipt with payment information gets published as a nostr event - basically just pointing to an actual blockchain.
