I struggle sometimes between which terminology to use when trying to describe the process of acquiring bitcoins: Is the right term “buy bitcoin” or is it “buy bitcoins”? Here’s my thinking: when you’re describing acquiring the individual units of bitcoin (say in a trade or in comparison with another asset), I should use “buy bitcoins”; it’s kind of akin to saying “buy houses”. However, if the reference is not only to acquiring bitcoin units but also the ideology of bitcoin or the asset class, then it should be “buy bitcoin”, similar to saying “buy real estate”.
