So called "white voice" is a type of folk singing common to all Slavic cultures (although it can be found all across the globe) and is characterized by a very strong, forward-placed resonance, producing a distinct "buzz". The buzz is the raw sound of fully connected vocal folds, not attenuated by any unnecessary tension in the vocal tract. Anglophone sources speak of this type of singing as a "controlled shout", but this is a huge misconception, in my opinion. I would call it more of a call than a shout. You can hear it in our example below - even quiet, delicate sounds possess the same consistent quality. Too me, it's the most pure type of singing - no mannerisms, no hiding your shame behind various stylizations, no trying to sound impressive. From my experience, people are either mesmerised by this song or (rarely) find the voice too harsh, too piercing. I wonder how you guys will react.
