A relay only serves events it actually received, so one that joined later never had those older notes. History in Nostr lives per relay rather than per app, and a timeline stopping about a year back is usually the relay answering EOSE with nothing more to give. Compare the relay lists before blaming the client: if mobile dials a different set than desktop, the same key looks different on each device. An archive relay usually fills the gap.

Not blaming anybody, just uh... what to do it the right way, maybe help someone else as well. Would be nice to get an audience of 400 folks, but it's not very clear how to best use relays when creating an npub to try n' connect with others.
That gap is what Nostr Vault fixes. It runs a relay on your own device, so your notes and your follows' notes get saved there as they arrive. It also pulls your older notes back in from the relays that still have them. Your history stops depending on which public relays happened to be around when you posted. It depends of if your relay saw it first. Point every client at it and your phone and desktop see the same timeline.
