Usually they get caught because they exit Monero into Bitcoin, not the other way around. If he’s smart (probably not) he would swap into monero but it’s unlikely since he’d have to go illicit marketplaces, or mix those coins beyond recognition, or dump them on some sucker that didn’t know they’re tainted. Either way they’re fucked, maybe it’s plausible with Atomic Swaps but I haven’t researched it enough.
