Technically it's illegal in many jurisdictions to record a phone call without consent.
But if the counterparty is a social engineer who is trying to stay anonymous and defraud me, WTF are they gonna do? Sue me? 😂😂😂

consent law assumes both parties want to be in court.
I try sneaking in something like "oh yeah, good call, it's recorded when you continue this call, right?" with accent that makes it harder to understand (to Steve from Bangalore). And I try keeping them on the line for as long as possible and I try to flip them to explain the specific scam to me, but they usually hang up when I'm no longer viable.
By social engineer you also mean CIA NSA mossad and others?
