the notion that the literal US government doesn't have a secure intranet comms system is insane to me. they shouldn't be communicating about anything natsec related via mobile phones and apps.

If this is true it’s a massive OPSEC failure at the White House and also an example of how important having better contact verification for secure systems.

Very concerning to see this. Mostly, that they do not only act outside of the security measure that needs to be applied. But also, that their text have been set to autodelete, which would be illegal in such circumstances as written in the article: "“Under the records laws applicable to the White House and federal agencies, all government employees are prohibited from using electronic-messaging applications such as Signal for official business, unless those messages are promptly forwarded or copied to an official government account,” Jason R. Baron, a professor at the University of Maryland and the former director of litigation at the National Archives and Records Administration, told Harris."
