Is this Democracy in the room with us now?
It is the room, and it is a prison.
I'm pretty sure it's only existed in some ancient city states, and pirate ships, but has never been used as a governing system outside of those few examples.
Let me put it this way, to the extent everyone has a vote in my country to elect the people who write the laws, the inevitability is we're rekt.
Democracy is the political phase before revolution. The “Get Out And Vote” campaign was a direct attack on the republic. Even women’s suffrage was explained as a dent in the structure if they too don’t pay the price of poor democratic judgement by being drafted to war. When you zoom out across centuries you see how the civilizations before us have fallen to the same trap. We do it over and over. Humans doing human things, even after starting fresh among new opportunities. The fourth turning is about the amnesia of our species. I realized that religion is the best tool to carry deep lessons and social memory across generations. But even that has its risks of abuse and failure to properly deliver guidance. What to do.
“(democracy is) the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.” - Winston Churchill
Democracy is ALWAYS messy and chaotic, but beware falling for some idealized ideology that only permanently installs some despot and his minions.
If you're electing people to vote for you, you're not in a democracy.
Which type of horrible government do you prefer?
The one that maximally leaves me the fuck alone.
Semantically I agree.
I think yer stuck with democracy maybe an oligarchy but either way the tyranny of the majority will get cha
