Follower count doesn't matter on Nostr.
Not only because you can easily spin up npubs to create fake followers. But traditionally, follower count used to be a metric that attracted sponsorships for monetization. However on Nostr, you can earn money directly from each post. This encourages sharing valuable content over chasing followers.

With private relays, it doesn't matter at all. Nostr turns into Discord that way

I’m not here for either outcome so I don’t care, but if you we apply the OnlyFans model to this then I guess I prefer higher value engagement. Why not just sell something of “tangible” value rather than playing algorithms?

No. The point being made was that on old socials you can’t monetize without a follower count because that’s what sponsors look at.
On nostr that’s not the case as you can monetize with 0 followers simply by saying something people can relate to as long as someone shares your note out to others.

@ODELL's idea of having follow counts perpetually increase is kinda a genius way to get normies on Nostr. People love seeing their follower count increase, why not just make it programmatic

I did say follower "count" doesn't matter, as opposed to followers or amplifiers of your message doesn't matter. You can have a low follower count and earn money here. You can't have that on traditional socials.

Exactly! Client makers might as well remove the followers count from the profiles. We don’t need to copy EXACTLY all the features of legacy social media.
