Technically if you get to failure on the first set. You don’t need to do much else. But most people need to warm up and then go harder until failure. And yes.. when you have a weight that you can no longer move up or down, that’s failure. I’d also recommend not letting the veins burst. I work on remaining extremely calm during failure. I don’t want any emotion on my face or in my breath. To me, showing every emotion when you push or grunt is weakness. Learning to remain calm while the muscles are extremely stressed is also a valuable skill. It’s very challenging at first, but you get used to it.
