Rabbit kit eating cannabis Even the slightest protruding leaf of the cannabis plants gets quickly nibbled away by the rabbits. Soon the plants will be tall enough to spread branches out higher than the reach of the rabbits. We are going to have to start harvesting rabbits soon by the look of the numbers in the colony. The older males will start fighting for territory and that's when we know it's time. #permaculture #permies #homesteading #grownostr #selfsovereignty #rabbit #cannabis #weedstr #rabbitcolony View quoted note →

Thanks for the zap! Made my day! We keep the rabbits in the colony all winter, we try to harvest all rabbits except the breeding stock by the end of November. They don't breed much over the winter and the numbers stay low. Very low input system, we are working on getting more detailed numbers on how much we spend on supplemental feed each year for meat the system yeilds. We are working on some ways to make harvesting the rabbits faster as well as getting more plants to survive in the system amongst the rabbits. There still plenty of room for improvement.
Do the rabbits try to dig out of their enclosure? We have a few meat rabbits and we keep them in cages but I've been thinking they'll be better overall with a large enclosure like you have.
The chicken wire that's attached to the woven wire fence to keep them in is bent at the bottom and extends about a foot to the inside of the fence. So they have to dig a tunnel to get out. I'm not sure if that's why they don't dig out or if its just big enough that they don't need more space for their territory. We haven't had any issues with the rabbits escaping or predators so far after more than 2 years of keeping them this way.
Ladybugs and larva protecting cannabis from pests image Seeing lots of ladybugs and larva on the cannabis. There must be plenty of aphids for them to eat. Thankfully it seems like the ladybugs keeping everything in balance and the plants are looking healthy. image The rabbits are also very healthy and we are starting to harvest them now. This one is a perfect example of what we are look for. Pelts are clean and fluffy and livers look good too. #permaculture #permies #homesteading #grownostr #selfsovereignty #weedstr #cannabis #weed #marijuana #ladybug #pestcontrol #symbiosis #rabbit #rabbitcolony #garden #gardening #meat View quoted note →

The feeling of following what you do is a mixture of optimism because of all of the teaching and dread because it shows how much ground a newcomer has to cover.
