i think the sun has a crust, and what we see is a permanent storm, and the same with jupiter. jupiter is just not heavy enough to make the atmosphere catch fire permanently.

saturn, it's spinning so fast, and it isn't as big as jupiter. not sure why i think this but i suspect that when jupiter lights up, it will be flung out of the solar system. the two planets have very strong interactions because of their mass, and though the proof is stil a bit weak, the influence of the two large planets on energy transiting from the sun towards planets is getting stronger the more people look into it. i personally think that jupiter in particular modulates solar cycles, indirectly.
