In early 2023 on @GBNews I warned that central bank digital currencies could become programmable money.
Money that can be limited, directed, monitored or linked to policy goals.
At the time, many people thought this sounded extreme.
The Bank of England’s Digital Pound Lab is now trialling use cases involving programmable payments and smart contracts.
Across the EU, the Digital Euro is moving forward, while member states are required to provide EU Digital Identity Wallets by the end of 2026.
In the UK, digital ID, age verification and the Online Safety Act are all expanding the infrastructure for digital authoritarianism.
Financial freedom depends on preserving the ability to transact without permission.
Bitcoin is a peaceful way to opt out.
Speaking about this on stage at @BTCPrague. Details below.

Unfortunately, most people are just NPCs. They will comply with whatever the school prefects impose on them. They will watch football on the telly. They will take their jabs when told to, and they will welcome the CBDC with alacrity. This is the state of the unthinking masses. They believe that government is not only the authority, but that it is looking after them.
This would make a great dystopian novel. Bitcoin is also programmable money, but the difference is you can only program sats you own yourself.
The CBDC's are programmed by someone else.
To some, it may have sounded like just another conspiracy theory!

Nice use of alacrity 🤝
Well done Susie. Great work as always! Digital ID’s used to be considered a ‘conspiracy theory’ back in 2020 too, yet here we are… same nonsense under yet another guise…
