maybe sometimes, but i suspect many were never shown how to deal with the discomfort of being a black sheep. there is a kind of comfort in consensus. it feels like safety

That's why freedom is never popular.
if you give it a good UX and it becomes mainstream, it stops being freedom.
It's not just comfortable. Consensus is enforced. Being the black sheep has cost me more than once, and physically too. Some people will not accept your standing apart.
