because clients might not want to compute the Sha of very big files. But realistically that's not such a problem for phones, unless we are talking about some embedded systems, like idk a fridge

Computing the hash of a large file is kind of a natural incentive to start chunking... unfortunately I haven't seen a good chunking method yet
