The network was never down, that's not the point.
At block 74638 there was the 184 billion btc transaction.
Every transaction after that block was reversed when the patched chain kicked in and caught the unpatched chain at block 74691.
This means that everything you did during those 5 hours didn't really happened, i.e. you needed to do it again.
