And no one forced them to develop, it works both ways.
The bigger clients already figured out how to monetize their work so this whole conversation is essentially an exercise in futility.

They did not. All of them currently are operating in the red, being solely propped up by VC funding, or grants.
Which won’t last very long as the VC funders that run the grant charities, and invest in commercial apps have no interest in giving grants to apps that could be a real competitor.
