I do not respond well to bullies. I took a bowling ball and knocked over all the bullies in our church this week. I go to a smallish church; I’ve been attending for 5 years. Recently, I was voted into a leadership position within the church. Our church is pretty evenly divided between the old guard and a wave of newer mostly younger attendees. We were always told (my wife and I) that some of this old guard will absolutely bully any and all members who go against what they say. (Side note: This is about as unchristian as it comes and the opposite of displaying the love of Christ. It shouldn’t be the norm in churches) That being said, we’ve always treated everyone there with the respect & love they deserve. They had never bullied us until recently. They cornered my wife (men albeit) when I dropped her off at the entrance of our church (she’s pregnant so I was sparing her the walk) and berated her about the job I’m doing in my voted on position. I could tell something was off when I walked in. She wasn’t her self & then the service started. She told me what happened and I unleashed some righteous anger on them during Sunday evening service. I remained cordial but was incredibly firm and forceful. I defended my wife and this guy cowered… like most bullies do. He was completely lost for words. Anyways… there has been more inappropriate conduct from this gentleman and his wife. They are now about to lose their status as elders and deacons of the church. Which they should, this is not how leaders behave. Why do I share all this? 3 reasons: 1) I needed to vent a little bit, let’s be honest haha! 2) Folks who play religion do not display the fruits of the spirit and love of Christ. They play religious games and chase power and control. 3) The world needs strong men. Your church needs strong men. I’m not trying to pat myself on the back here but my goodness fight for what is right in your life. Don’t let bullies control any aspect of it.
